THE STRATEMEYER STORY
In an area where farming is a way of life, the Stratemeyer Brothers grew up on the family farm that is now recognized as one of the area's largest centennial farms, having been in the Stratemeyer Family for over 4 generations. In their teenage years, the Stratemeyer Brother's interests grew to include the broadcasting industry. First Samuel, then Benjamin & Daniel were at different times the youngest to ever own a radio station. When you think of farmers, you think of people working with their hands building and growing things.
The Stratemeyer Family is no exception. They built all of the stations they now operate (with the exception of one) from scratch while growing the family business.
As their interests grew, their passion for the family farm and the agriculture industry did not die. Samuel focused on the radio side of the family business while Benjamin went on to earn the Star Agribusiness award for the Southern Illinois region of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and later earned the coveted "American Farmer Degree" from the FFA (an honor only the top 2% are awarded) in addition to becoming a CPA handling the family accounting. Daniel, the youngest of the three brothers went on to graduate with a Law Degree from the University of Illinois, a top agricultural university.
Through the changes in their lives and their family business, one thing has remained a constant, they still work the family farm are dedicated to farm related broadcasting. The Stratemeyer family is a member of the Farm Bureau and the National Farmer Organization (NFO). Farming for the Stratemeyer Family is not just a programming element on their radio stations, but has been a way of life and an important part of the family's history for nearly 200 years, and no doubt will play a substantial roll in their future.
The Stratemeyer brothers and their media company are not only farm broadcasters. Stratemeyer Media has spent countless dollars developing a listener base through careful research and polling on every aspect of each of their stations. Stratemeyer Media embraced diverse media by programming the DMA's only African American -targeted radio station. With careful consideration of the area's needs and desires, Stratemeyer Media has pioneered a concept of one on one interaction with their audiences by making available the radio programming that best represents the needs of this ever changing region of diversity.
